Promoting Heath
During the school years, children and adolescents are experiencing great physical, psychological and social development. To ensure that this development occurs normally, children and adolescents must increase their consumption of energy and particular nutrients. We believe we have a shared responsibility to provide nutritious food and effective nutritional education to our students.
As a Health Promoting school we ask parents to plan school lunches with a nutritional focus. Food based mainly on breads (preferably wholegrain), other cereals and grains, fruits and vegetables are rich in fibre, carbohydrate, minerals and vitamins, are low in fat and form the basis of a healthy diet. Cheese, yogurt, lean meats, chicken or fish, and eggs are also rich in protein, iron, zinc, calcium and vitamins.
We ask parents to refrain from packing lunches containing cakes, sweet biscuits, packet chips or carbonated drinks.
We wish to instill in students from an early age the importance of good nutrition and diet, which will be linked to classroom and homework activities. |
