Lower Secondary and IGCSE

The Lower Secondary School at Australian International School (AIS) is for students aged 11 to 15 (Years 7 to 11) and follows the University of Cambridge Secondary programme. It extends the inquiry-based approach that the IB Primary Years Programme offers while also preparing the students for the rigours, challenges and demands of the IB Diploma Programme.

All students undertake major and minor core subjects. A strong focus on English, Mathematics and Science is a feature of the School. Well-equipped classrooms and laboratories provide an ideal setting for practical, experiential learning. Information Technology is used extensively in all curriculum areas and specialist teachers in Art, Music and Physical Education allow students to allow students to develop interests and skills that will last a life time.

Our programmes provide not only rigour and challenge, but depth, breadth and variety. Our academic and co-curricular programmes provide students with enriching experiences and opportunities. AIS is committed to providing a secondary school education of the highest standards, maintained by internationally qualified and knowledgeable teachers who keep abreast of change and innovative educational trends.

A guide on Cambridge IGCSE

AIS-IGCSE-1

IGCSE qualifications stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education. This is an international curriculum and a globally-recognised high school qualification for students aged 14 to 16.

AIS-IGCSE-2

The IGCSE subjects and IGCSE exams are typically offered to students in Years 10-11 (Grade 9-10).

AIS-IGCSE-3

The international curriculum IGCSE grading system used at AIS, HCMC goes from for A* - G.

AIS-IGCSE-4

The IGCSE qualifications are definitely for any child. Students who successfully complete their IGCSE qualifications are well prepared for further study and the rigours of the IB Diploma, offering a sound pathway through their senior high school years.

AIS-IGCSE-5

The IB Diploma is offered to students in their final two years of study (Years 12 and 13). The IGCSE curriculum covers material from Years 10 & 11. Both, however, are tremendously positive experiences for your child and offer rich learning experiences upon which your child can build. They are also both international curriculums that are highly respected and recognised around the world.

AIS-IGCSE-6

In truth, there is little difference between IGCSE and GCSE. Whilst there are minor content and assessment differences, typically IGCSE subjects and IGCSE exams are offered by international schools around the world whereas GCSE are offered predominantly by schools in the UK.

AIS-IGCSE-7

There are a few reasons why a student should choose IGCSE qualifications:

  1. IGCSEs have rigourous content culminating in formal IGCSE exams at the end of Year 11 (Grade 10).
  2. They are globally-recognised international qualifications that are recognised in more than 140 countries worldwide.
  3. IGCSE subjects provide a thorough educational background as a student enters their final two years of schooling.
  4. They provide a well-balanced academic program requiring students to study subject across a range of areas before narrowing their choices down somewhat as they enter the IB Diploma.
AIS-IGCSE-8

The IGCSE quallifcations are recognised globally, in 140 schools on all 6 continents. AIS in Ho Chi Minh City is proud to have it as part of our curriculum.

AIS-IGCSE-9

Whilst a student's individual program and pathway is taken into account, typically a student will study a minimum of six IGCSE subjects across Year 10 and 11.

AIS-IGCSE-10

The IGCSE international curriculum is offered by eight schools in Vietnam. AIS is proud to be one of these and has a proven track record of its students achieving outstanding results in all IGCSE subjects. Some AIS students have even been awarded the Top in Vietnam Award for their subjects.

School fees for students who enrol at the beginning of Year 10 (Grade 9) are set at around US$26,000 per year.
