To best prepare them for the future, it is important to know the similarities and differences we have with others, including physical, social, cultural, nationality, beliefs, values and interests, so that we can build respect and an appreciation of each other.

Even though we may think differently or have different beliefs to other people, we can both be ‘right’. By having an understanding of our similarities and differences, we can create a safer and more peaceful world for all of us to live in. Internationally minded people appreciate and value the diversity of the cultures of the world and strive to learn more about them. They care for people all around the globe and display a moral responsibility towards other people and their environment. At AIS we strive to develop our knowledge, understanding and actions of what it means to be internationally minded. Within our community we focus on making connections to our local and global community as well as demonstrating a strong responsibility towards our environment. Our curriculum and approaches to teaching are designed to reflect international and multicultural perspectives.

At Australian International School (AIS), our philosophy encourages our students to listen to the world around them, to be curious and reflective and make a difference to our world. We promote our cultural diversity by celebrating days such as International Day, sporting events and other celebrations important to our community, including the recent celebration of Tet Nguyen Dan (TET). Through these celebrations our children discover and interact with our local host community, as well as share their own personal cultural values.
