A Moment of Gratitude and Achievement
When Hoang Bao Ngoc first learned she had received the AIS Scholarship, the feeling was overwhelming.
“I was extremely thrilled and deeply grateful when I found out I had received the AIS Scholarship. It felt rewarding to know that my hard work, achievements, and contributions to the school community were truly recognised and valued.”
Her motivation for applying was rooted in both personal circumstances and a desire to challenge herself. Coming from a modest financial background, Hoang Bao Ngoc saw the scholarship as an opportunity to help ease her family’s financial responsibilities while continuing her education at AIS. At the same time, she viewed the application as a chance to test whether her academic efforts and involvement in school activities met the standards of such a prestigious award.
Growing Academically and Personally at AIS
Studying at AIS has played a significant role in shaping both Hoang Bao Ngoc’s academic confidence and personal development.
“The teachers are extremely supportive of my learning and constantly encourage me to go beyond what I think I am capable of,” she explains. “They challenge me to think more critically, ask deeper questions, and refine my work.”
Beyond the classroom, AIS provides a wide range of co-curricular opportunities that have helped Hoang Bao Ngoc discover new interests and develop valuable skills. Participating in different activities has strengthened her ability to manage time effectively, collaborate with others, and take on leadership roles.
Compared with her previous school experience, Hoang Bao Ngoc believes the level of support and the variety of opportunities at AIS have made a significant difference.
“AIS not only motivates me to continuously improve myself, but it has also given me opportunities to grow my extracurricular involvement in ways I never imagined. Through activities such as Model United Nations, the school dance team, and student-led initiatives like co-founding the EmpowHER organisation, I’ve gained the confidence to take initiative, lead projects, and work alongside others to create real impact.”
Discovering a Passion for Science
One of the most impactful academic experiences for Hoang Bao Ngoc was taking the Coordinated Science course and exam in Year 10. While challenging, the course helped her discover a genuine passion for scientific thinking.
“My teachers helped me realise how much I enjoy problem-solving and critical thinking in the scientific field. It was a mind-opening experience and played a major role in shaping my interest in Chemistry as a future career.”
This discovery has since inspired her ambition to pursue Chemical Engineering in the future.
Supportive Teachers and a Strong Community
Throughout her journey at AIS, the support from teachers has been constant and meaningful for Hoang Bao Ngoc.
“One thing that stands out is how my voice is always heard and taken seriously. Whether it’s about classwork, feedback, or personal challenges, my teachers never hesitate to offer advice and help me find solutions.”
Among her most memorable experiences was the Year 12 Camp, particularly the Gala Night organised by students.
“It was the first time I truly recognised how much support and encouragement I receive from my teachers and classmates, as well as being acknowledged as a leader within the year group. Seeing how collaboration and communication led to such a successful, student-led event was really magical.”
For new students joining AIS, Hoang Bao Ngoc describes the community as a place where growth and development are strongly encouraged.
“AIS provides the support you need academically and personally. Teachers are approachable and always willing to guide you. But ultimately, your growth depends on your determination and passion. If you’re willing to put in the effort, AIS offers the environment and opportunities for you to truly challenge yourself.”
Opportunities Through the AIS Scholarship
The AIS Scholarship has also opened doors for Hoang Bao Ngoc to pursue experiences that have strengthened her confidence and leadership.
One of her most meaningful achievements was co-founding an NGO called EmpowHER with her friends. The organisation aims to raise awareness about gender equality and amplify youth voices within the community.
“The scholarship gave me the reassurance and support to take initiative and turn an idea into something impactful.”
She has also been able to pursue her passion for dance by joining the school dance team, while participating in the Model United Nations (MUN) programme further developed her public speaking, critical thinking, and global awareness.
Building Confidence Through Challenge
For Hoang Bao Ngoc, the scholarship experience has helped her become more confident by encouraging her to step forward and embrace challenges.
“It gave me more opportunities to take initiative and challenge myself. With that came more chances to fail, reflect, and improve.”
Through both successes and setbacks, she has become more aware of her strengths and areas for growth. The encouragement and honest feedback from teachers and classmates have also played an important role in shaping her resilience and self-awareness.
Looking Toward the Future
As Hoang Bao Ngoc looks ahead to university and beyond, she believes AIS is preparing her in both practical and personal ways.
Pastoral programmes have helped her develop essential skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and self-reflection - qualities that will be invaluable in higher education and future careers.
With the support of the science department and access to well-equipped laboratories, Hoang Bao Ngoc feels confident pursuing her passion for Chemical Engineering, particularly in the pharmaceutical field.
“I’m fascinated by how science and engineering can be applied to improve healthcare and create meaningful impact in people’s lives.”
Inspiring the Next Generation
One of Hoang Bao Ngoc’s biggest goals is to continue the legacy of EmpowHER by inspiring younger students to take on leadership roles and carry the initiative forward.
“I hope to build something sustainable that continues to empower others even after I graduate.”
Above all, Hoang Bao Ngoc hopes to inspire others not only through achievements but also through resilience, initiative, and a willingness to make a positive difference in the community.
Her journey reflects what the AIS Scholarship stands for: recognising students who not only excel academically, but who also contribute meaningfully to their community and aspire to create impact beyond the classroom.
