Growing Academically and Personally
Joining AIS in Year 7 marked a turning point in Mira’s educational journey. After attending schools that offered limited academic support, she initially found herself adjusting to new expectations and learning approaches.
“The first year was a bit bumpy,” she admits. “I had gaps in my learning and wasn’t confident in how to study effectively.”
What made the difference was AIS’s structured, supportive learning environment. Through clear guidance from teachers and a strong focus on organisation and time management, Mira learned how to adapt, build effective study habits and regain confidence in her academic abilities.
Today, she describes AIS as offering much more than classroom learning.
“It’s not just about academics,” she says. “AIS offers leadership opportunities, student-led group projects and a wide range of co-curricular experiences that help you grow in so many ways.”
Discovering Passions and Leadership
One of the most defining experiences of Mira’s time at AIS came through the school’s performing arts programme. After watching Seussical the Musical, she was inspired to audition for the school production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
“That experience had a huge impact on me,” she says. “I saw the connection within the cast and wanted to be part of something like that.”
Participating in the production not only strengthened her confidence and communication skills but also helped her form close friendships and step into leadership opportunities she never imagined for herself.
“It gave me the courage to take on one of the most important leadership roles in the school later on,” she explains.
A Community That Cares
For Mira, one of the strongest aspects of AIS is its welcoming community. From teachers who took the time to support her transition into a new learning environment, to classmates who understood what it feels like to be new, she describes AIS as inclusive, understanding and supportive.
“The teachers didn’t just teach their subjects,” she says. “They helped me learn how to organise myself, manage my time and believe in my ability to succeed.”
A standout memory remains the closing night of the school musical - a moment of reflection, pride and shared achievement after months of hard work.
“It felt nostalgic,” she says. “Standing there with my classmates, looking back on everything we had achieved together, was unforgettable.”
Confidence for the Future
The AIS Scholarship has played a pivotal role in shaping Mira’s confidence and aspirations. Knowing her efforts were recognised motivated her to push herself further, both academically and personally.
“It reassured me that my hard work was being noticed,” she says. “That’s when I really started to see my true potential.”
Looking ahead, Mira feels well prepared for her future pathway. With a strong academic foundation, essential organisational skills and exposure to the IB Programme, she believes AIS is equipping her for success at university and beyond.
“Before AIS, I was very uncertain about my future,” she reflects. “Now I understand my interests, my strengths and where I can keep improving. My goal is to make the most of every opportunity here so I can open doors to great university options later.”
Mira’s journey is a powerful example of how the AIS Scholarship Programme nurtures talent, builds confidence and creates opportunities - helping students not only succeed academically, but thrive as individuals.
