A Journey of Balance and Determination
For Jeonghyeon, opening the results email was a moment filled with relief after weeks of anticipation. Achieving such a high score required resilience, focus, and the ability to balance academics with personal wellbeing. Regular breaks, a clear vision for the future, and a consistent approach to managing the IB workload were crucial strategies. As Jeonghyeon reflects, “IB is a long and exhausting journey, and you always have to maintain the balance between your academics and daily life.”
A Passion for Science
Science has always been at the heart of Jeonghyeon’s academic journey. Subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology provided opportunities to explore everything from biochemical reactions at the molecular level to the complexities of human behaviour. This curiosity was nurtured through AIS’s organised and interactive science programmes, which included study groups, science fairs, and after-school tutorials run by our committed teaching staff.
Jeonghyeon acknowledges the impact of this support: “AIS has very supportive science teachers who consistently helped me deepen my knowledge and experience in science.”
Looking Ahead: Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne
With a clear vision for the future, Jeonghyeon will soon begin studying Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne. Inspired by a love of biochemistry and human physiology, this next step brings Jeonghyeon closer to the dream of becoming a medical researcher. The goal is not only to advance scientific knowledge, but also to contribute to meaningful medical breakthroughs that can improve lives around the world.
Particularly influenced by IB psychology, Jeonghyeon hopes to specialise in neurology or psychiatry, focusing on treatments for brain-related illnesses.
Advice for Future IB Students
Reflecting on the journey, Jeonghyeon offers valuable advice to students preparing for the IB Diploma:
- Be consistent – Regular revisions and spreading workload evenly make the challenges manageable.
- Choose subjects wisely – Select based on your passions and future goals, not just what might seem “easy for scores.”
- Stay motivated – Keep your bigger aspirations in mind to maintain focus through the demanding two years.
A Community of Support
Achievements like these do not happen in isolation. Jeonghyeon expresses heartfelt gratitude to the teachers who played an instrumental role in this journey. Special mentions go to Mr. Knight for his exceptional support in Chemistry, Mr. Duncombe for inspiring a passion for Psychology, and Ms. Jo for her dedication to Biology students -supporting them after hours, even beyond her teaching commitments.
At AIS, we are immensely proud of Jeonghyeon’s accomplishments and the hard work, perseverance, and passion that led to this outstanding result. With a strong foundation built at school and an exciting future ahead in Biomedicine, Jeonghyeon is sure to continue making an impact on the world.
