Like many international schools around the world, while senior secondary students at AIS study the IB Diploma programme, the curriculum for Years 7 – 11 is based on the Cambridge lower secondary programme culminating in IGCSE examinations in Year 11. IGCSE is a respected, internationally recognised qualification; in fact, it is the world’s most popular international qualification for the age of 14 to 16. More importantly, by studying Cambridge IGCSE subjects, based on rigorous, academic syllabuses, our students develop a strong foundation in terms of knowledge, skills and abilities in preparation for the challenging IB Diploma programme.

IGCSE results for our current Year 12 students, and a handful of high achieving current Year 11 students, were released on Thursday 12th August. These results were some of the best in AIS’s history, with 80% of grades across all subjects being in the A* - C range. Depending on the courses studied, students are generally awarded grades for 5 to 7 subjects. A total of 13 students achieved the maximum grade of an A* in no less than four of their subjects with 12 students achieving an A or A* in all of the subjects they studied. This is an exceptional result considering the difficult circumstances with online learning at the end of last academic year. Despite AIS being closed for online learning leading up to, and during the entirety of the examination period, AIS students were still able to achieve their best, proof of AIS’s outstanding Virtual Learning Programme.

Of particular note were two students that achieved perfect A* grades in all of their subjects. Theodore Sheng Yuan Ong (Global Perspectives, English First Language and Literature, Business Studies, Physics, Chemistry and Additional Mathematics) and Nguyen Ngoc Minh Khue (Biology, Chemistry, English First Language and Literature, Information and Communication Technology and Additional Mathematics) were exemplary students throughout the year, resulting in exceptional grades. We congratulate, Theodore, Minh Khue and all IGCSE students on their hard work, determination and resilience through what was a challenging examination period and we look forward to seeing the work they produce in the IB Diploma Programme over the coming years.
