IB Diploma Programme Requirements
To achieve an IB Diploma, IB students must successfully complete six subjects. Three Higher Level subjects and three other subjects of the candidate's choice. In addition, they must also complete three core course elements.
The core elements course is comprised of three parts:
- Theory of Knowledge - a course that unifies and inter-relates the other areas of study, reflecting on the nature of knowledge
- Extended Essay - a substantial piece of independent research, culminating in a 4,000-word assignment
- Participation in Creativity, Activity and Service, resulting in a project related to this area. Students wishing to enrol on the IBDP may choose one subject from each of Groups 1 to 5, (listed below) thus ensuring a breadth of experience in Languages, Humanities, the Sciences and Mathematics. For their final subject, students may choose one option from Group 6. Subject options in this group are: Visual Arts, Music, or an additional subject from Groups 3 or 4.
